Professional recognition

For regulated professions in Belgium (i.e. those whose access is limited to specific qualifications (e.g.: doctor, pharmacist, solicitor, teacher etc.), there is a recognition mechanism of professional qualifications regarding degrees acquired in member states of the European economic Area, whose holder is considered professionally fully qualified for a regulated profession and is a national of one of those countries.

That recognition is based on the application of the European directive 2005/36/CE on the recognition of professional qualifications.

With the exception of the fully qualified teachers, this mechanism of professional recognition is not the competence of the Service de la reconnaissance académique et professionnelle des diplômes étrangers of higher education, but should be addressed to other competent ministries or professional bodies (depending on the profession).

Please note that professional recognition procedure does not require a decision of academic recognition.
